Adam Laxalt, Nevada Senate Candidate, Joins the Show

BUCK: Adam Laxalt, he is running for Senate in Nevada, a critical pickup opportunity. Only got a couple of weeks here before the die are cast. Adam, thanks for being with us.

LAXALT: Absolutely. Thanks for having me.

BUCK: So, let’s start with this. What do people need to know about the difference between you and Cortez Masto?

LAXALT: Look, first and foremost, I understand that our country is in grave, grave danger. I hear it every single day. Voters understand that, you know, we don’t just need a small correction to fix our state, fix America. We need a radical shift in leadership. And Joe Biden has led us dramatically to the far left in the last two years. It’s been astonishing to see the speed in which they’ve destroyed our country.

And Senator Masto has been right there with him every step of the way. She’s voted with him nearly 100% of the time. And this is easy for all your listeners. The bottom line is you’d know her name if she ever broke from Joe Biden because (audio drop) even once, but she never broke from her party’s progressive base because, you know, she’s beholden to them. And that is not where our state is. And these policies have hurt Nevada far worse than they have other states across the country.

CLAY: Why do you think your state uniquely maybe is moving so aggressively, Adam, from a blue state to a red state? Because I think you’re going to win. I think that Republicans are also going to take the governor’s office there. And this feels like something that almost happened in ’20. Looks like it may well happen in ’22 and I think will signal to the nation that Nevada is potentially going to be a red state in 2024 in the presidential election.

LAXALT: Yeah. Look, first and foremost, you know, we’ve been credited running one of the strongest, most consistent Senate campaigns in America. We’ve been at this now 12 months. I have four little kids ages 9, 6, 4 and 9 months. It’s tough as you can imagine on a family. We’ve given our entire family to this process and no one has worked harder in this state. And again, I think we’ve run the best Senate campaign in the country.

And so, this effort is coming to fruition. We worked tirelessly. And here we are. You know, post-(audio drop), it’s seven polls. And it’s tight, though. You know, this is not time for celebration. These seven polls have us up 2 points, 3 points in a very tight state. And so, it’s kind of odd. I went from having to convince everybody the first half of the year that we can win and now everybody thinks we’re just going to win, but we have to close this thing out.

The Democrats have spent $90 million against me trying to attack me, trying to build up her nonexistent record. And we’ve got to keep matching that. I hope conservatives across the country help me at AdamLaxalt.com. As long as we continue to get our message out. The bottom line is they’ve destroyed our country and people are ready for change in my state.

BUCK: Speaking to Adam Laxalt, AdamLaxalt.com, as he just said. He’s in a critical Senate race here. Really could be the difference between Republican control and, heaven forbid, the alternative. Adam, I want to know, when you speak to people, I’m sure you come across folks who are saying, “Yeah, you know what, I’m thinking about voting for you. And here’s what I would need to know to make that final determination.”

I mean, for anyone who’s on the fence, what are they still trying to figure out? I mean that in earnestness, like, what are they…is it just where you are on the on the economy? Do they not know what your opponent, Cortez Masto, has stood for, which is just all-out Bidenism? Like what’s, for that last final tranche you were saying, “Well, I still got to make a decision.” What do they need to know?

LAXALT: Look, the bottom line is that my opponent, like many of these Democratic candidates in the U.S. Senate, they have all summer long to themselves. And so, they’re able to (audio drop) their record, distort their record. You know, she did all this, you know, pro (audio drop) stuff all summer in anticipation of us lowering the boom with Las Vegas Metro and all the 95% of the badges left her, me. But they knew that a lot of Republicans weren’t going to get out until Labor Day.

And so, really, the answer is we just need to get our message out. Our voters were just hearing our message, starting Labor Day forward. It was kind of hard to believe that the first time we were on TV in Las Vegas and as they hear that she has a rubber stamp for Biden it’s pretty much game over. When they hear that she supported BLM and says cops are systemically racist, well, guess what? All those phony ads really, really hit a nerve because they can tell that she’s lying about that stuff.

We put her on a commercial right out of her mouth saying there’s no such thing as open borders. It’s misinformation. And the second half of the commercial was me going to the border and being endorsed by Border Patrol for the first time in our state’s history, a Senate candidate being endorsed. And so, it’s not that complicated. A lot of the reason you’re seeing these big shifts in these races is because we were finally able to tell the voters the truth and they’re moving quickly once they understand there’s a clear contrast.

CLAY: Adam, there’s often a big change between being the hunter and being hunted. And, as you mentioned, the fact that you now have the lead in the polls has probably, I imagine, created a new level of ferocity and, frankly, dishonesty in your opponent. Over the next three-plus weeks as we come down this closing stretch, how nasty do you think this is going to get, given that you are poised to flip a Democrat seat and potentially by yourself in this campaign — depending on what happens elsewhere — potentially deliver the Republicans control of the Senate? What do you expect? How nasty is it going to get?

LAXALT: There’s no question we’ve seen the dark face of the Democrats. They will do whatever it takes for power. We’ve seen that over and over now. And the bottom line is, they’ve already been hitting me and lying about me for months and months. She is the most fact-checked Senate race in America. We’re up to seven fact checks. Couple of those are Washington Post. A couple, those are PolitiFact. These are left-wing organizations. And so, they are just throwing it all up on the wall.

They’re doing whatever they can to try to destroy me and rescue her failed campaign. But it’s not working. I mean, they’ve fired a lot of shots. And now I think people understand it’s all preposterous and stupid. I’ll also say we are not in any way letting up. We are on offense. In fact, a lot of our big hits are on her. We just started a couple of commercials this week. It’s the first-time voters have heard about it and we are not taking our foot off the gas. I mean, one of our biggest contrasts is the fact that she was an attorney general for eight years.

I took over for her. I took over 8,000 untested rape kits that she didn’t bother to get tested. We tested them. And in those kids were serial rapist, murders. That testing got them arrested. The voters are just hearing that for the first time this week. And so, that is why the Senate races matter. That’s why people are tired of hearing about money and all this. It matters. These Democrats had all year to distort their records. And we’re… we were just able to reach the voters of these messages. And so far, we are going to close this thing out. We’re going to stay on offense. We have more to come. And we feel like we’re in a good spot as long as we have the money to get all these messages to the voters. We feel like we’re going to have the checkmark next to Laxalt.
