Jesse Kelly Joins Us to React to Breaking News
Listen Here:
CLAY: We bring in now the man I believe took over Buck Sexton’s old radio spot. He is Jesse Kelly. He is ready to roll with us. And, Jesse, I want to start here — before we get into some of the zaniness going on in the political universe — what do you think Buck’s biggest takeaway is going to be from going to his first-ever major college football game tomorrow, Ole Miss against Alabama?
KELLY: I think he’s going to hate himself that he’s, I think, 40 years old and this is the first time he’s experienced this thing. There is nothing better than the energy of a college football game. Nothing. He’s gonna go nuts.
CLAY: As a single guy — I know you’re married and I’m married, but Buck is single — what do you think he’s gonna think about the Ole Miss and Alabama girls that he suddenly has himself surrounded by tomorrow?
KELLY: I think that he is probably just going to stay in town for an extra week or two and you’ll be doing the Clay and Buck Show by yourself for another week or so, Clay, because, my goodness. There are college women and then there are SEC college women, and Buck is going to really, really have a great weekend.
BUCK: I will say thank you to our station hosts here at WERC in Birmingham. So I will try not to infringe on their time with another week of being remote down here. But it’s good to have all the hospitality here. This is sounding like it’s gonna be some kind of seventh heaven or something; so I’m excited to check out this SEC game.
Jesse, though, we just had some serious news breaking right before we came on. We’re still looking at the details of it. But Governor Gavin Newsom of California has said the state is gonna add the covid-19 vaccine to other vaccines required to attend schools such as measles and mumps as early as next fall, and they’re gonna try to make this for all kids. What do you make of it?
KELLY: Well, there’s a couple things I make of it. One it’s obviously ridiculous. I don’t care what people say at this point that we have the data out there. Kids are not at risk for coronavirus. Kids are not at risk for coronavirus! It is not a disease that affects children. The total numbers of kids that are affected are minuscule; they’re practically nonexistent.
Let’s just get that aside. None of this makes sense. Because the bad news is Gavin Newsom just won recall handily. These blue states that are handing out these mandates — the politicians who are doing these things, abusing these people — are not unpopular in these states. Yeah, they’re 30, 40% of Californians who are gonna freak out and they’re gonna have to move or they’re gonna have to do it.
But the vast majority of people in California, even if it’s just 51%, they love these. We’re living in two different Americas. When New York does this crazy stuff, New Yorkers love it. That sucks, but that’s reality, and it leads to people who are right thinking people in those states, it means they’re trapped in a blue hellhole. (laughs) Another way to put it. And they’re not going to stop. This isn’t like the last thing they’re going to do. They’re going to keep going. It only gets worse from here in the blue areas.
CLAY: How does this all end, Jesse? You live in Texas. I live in Tennessee. And I feel like basically since May of last year, my life’s been completely normal. I’ve got kids. You’ve got kids. My kids have been playing sports. They’ve been in school. I have traveled a lot; so I’ve been to the New York and the L.A.s of the world, and I understand that their lives are completely different than ours. When do most Americans live normally without covid hanging over anybody’s head? How does it end and when does it end, in your mind?
KELLY: It doesn’t end for the blue areas. It does not end because of what I just said. There’s no incentive for those people to make it end; so what it will do, Clay — ’cause I live the same way you have. I’m in the suburbs of Texas. My kids are in school. My kids are playing sports. They’re not beware masks. There’s no vaccine requirement.
People don’t walk around with face shields on. We were having barbecues last July bring in the neighborhood! We were living normal life. But the red areas will get redder now and the blue areas will get bluer because this is something that will divide the country in ways this country has not been divided like this since the 1860s.
And I really genuinely mean that, because half the country loves these mandates. Half the country thinks it’s tyrannical. And one side cannot live with the other. They just cannot, not long term. They cannot live with the other; so you’re gonna see people separating. There’s a reason New York is losing congressional seats and Florida is picking them up.
BUCK: Speaking of Congress, Jesse, if I could for a second — and we’re speaking to Jesse Kelly who is syndicated host on Premiere Networks 6 to 9 Eastern. A great slot, let me tell you. A great slot with a fantastic, robust, patriotic audience of amazing people in the 6 to 9 as well as the 12 to 3 here — Eastern time, of course, talking about.
Jesse, fighting in Congress, it seems to me it just a question of how absurd the spending number is going to be. Can you foresee a possibility here of this collapsing in a way where there isn’t a few extra trillion thrown in the national balance sheet with all the machinations going on with Pelosi and Schumer and The Squad and more?
KELLY: I can. Now, I normally put faith in Nancy Pelosi getting done the things she wants to get done because I know she’s a horrendous hag but she’s a very capable politician. But they have a problem right now and that problem is Joe Biden’s poll numbers. It means everything right now. Joe Biden is not somebody moderate Democrats want to be associated with.
When your approval numbers drop in the forties, they know they’re gonna be facing opponents who are trying to attach them to Joe Biden. Joe Biden’s sagging popularity is the only thing that might save us from a $3.5 trillion bill being passed because what’s the incentive, what’s the incentive if you’re a moderate Democrat? You know you’re gonna get wiped out in the midterms, why would you sign on for this and guarantee it? But you don’t gain anything from that.
CLAY: Jesse, this news has just come down a little while ago as well. Joe Biden is traveling to Capitol Hill for a closed-door meeting to try to make the case to House members that they need to support his infrastructure bill. This is supposedly going to happen at 3:30. What do you think that will look like?
KELLY: Well, I would say they’re probably gonna have a nice fireplace going with him. Probably some extra blankets. I would guess they’ll have tapioca pudding delivered to Joe. Let’s not kids ourselves here. Joe Biden is what he is. He’s a half functional adult physically and mentally. He’s not going to fire and brimstone a room full of Democrats.
They’re just gonna try to use the power of the office, close the door, say, “Look at your president,” while someone stands behind Joe and holds up upright so he doesn’t fall over and then they’ll cart him right back to the White House again. Joe Biden is not some persuasive speaker. Joe Biden is about as persuasive as my shoes. He doesn’t matter.
BUCK: Jesse, thanks so much for being with us. Before we let you go just wondering any advice while I’m down here my first Alabama experience? I know you’re a man who knows this part of the world quite well.
KELLY: Go to the Toasted Yolk Cafe. Not Toasted Yolk. Another Broken Egg. Go to Another Broken Egg Cafe, because Birmingham is a place with a million great places to eat. Go to Another Broken Egg and order the breakfast beignets. Call me after. You will be in heaven.
BUCK: All right. Jesse Kelly, everybody, check him out 6 to 9 Eastern in hundreds of cities across the country. Jesse, great to have you with us, my man. Thanks so much.
KELLY: Be good, boys.
